CONGRESSI OFTACAFÉ
A notion that unites us as ophthalmologists, regardless of how advanced or specialized we may be in our careers, is the perception of the limitations of our knowledge and experience measured against the velocity of technical progress and constantly rising volumes of scientific evidence.
The main challenge for keeping ourselves up to date has shifted from mere access to information to distinguishing relevant content from “noise” and to piece together the multitude of individual evidence to form a broader picture.
Our educational series Oftacafé has been conceived to make prioritizing content and refining our roadmap in day-to-day clinical decision-making as pleasant as having a casual chat with an expert in a coffeehouse. We intend to provide an agreeable mediterranean atmosphere on the shores of Lake Lugano to afford a forum for direct exchange with leading experts in our field combined with personal discussion among peers.
Coffeehouses
Thinkers and artists of the past, such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Thomas Mann, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Hemingway, created socially significant works in coffeehouses. For many, they were the perfect places to discuss and steer political and social events. These places of inspiration still exist today and invite people to reflect and exchange ideas.
"The first coffeehouse in Europe was established in Constantinople, in 1554, while the first Oftacafé was held in Lugano in 2021 :)"
